　1983年にリリースされたアルバム『レッツ・ダンス Let’s Dance』のタイトル曲で、同年3月にシングルで発売され、英米を始めとする世界各国でチャートの1位に輝いた。英国や欧州に比べて米国での人気が今ひとつだったボウイが名実ともにアメリカを制覇した作品でもある。

　プロディーサーにシック Chic のナイル・ロジャース Nile Rodgers を起用し、マンハッタンのパワーステーション Power Station でレコーディングを行うなど、コンテンポラリーなサウンド作りを目指し、リード・ギターには当時まだ無名だったスティーヴィー・レイ・ヴォーン Stevie Ray Vaughan が起用された。
　そうした甲斐もあって本レコードはボウイのキャリアの中で最もヒットした作品となり、それまでのボウイの活動を知らない新たなファン層を獲得することができた。1983年夏には大島渚監督の『戦場のメリークリスマス』が公開され、映画俳優としても高い評価を得、世界的なボウイ人気はこの年にピークを迎えた。

　ちなみに、イントロのコーラスはビートルズの『ツイスト＆シャウト』へのオマージュだそうだ。
